Getting There

This is the morning of my big move. Sure, I have been away by myself at college for 2 years already, yet, there is something portentious about moving into my first apartment. My first living space truly by myself, with no roomate. I will be moving into a nice 3rd floor dormer studio apartment. Sadly, I doubt I will have internet access in my apartment for the first couple of weeks. I will check into getting local phone service and dial-up once I get down there, but I will be sans connectivity for a while. I can stay in touch through e-mail while at work, but it will still be nice to have some sort of access to be able to do design work for Level 1. I really wish that I had a laptop right now, if I did, I could simply drive to one of the many nearby wifi hotspots near UNO and do any surfing I wished to for free!

Well, Ill probably post an update on how my job goes later this week. I am also really excited about finally having a real fulltime job in my chosen career field. Iv had a number of great part-time jobs in the multimedia/broadcasting/IT area, but none of them have been as serious as this one probably will be. Eh, who knows? Well see on monday morning.

Keeping Busy

Heres the big news, I finally heard about my job in Omaha for the summer. I have been eagerly anticipating word from Offut Air Force Base, and finally heard from them on Friday. Tomorrow (Monday) I will be traveling down there to do some paperwork for the job and to get things squared away with the apartment I will be renting.

This job is pretty exciting for me, I will be doing flash development for them all summer long, and it will count as internship credits back at UNK along with being a full time paid position.

So I have been keeping busy with my first week or so of summer by learning more flash, doing some IT consulting at a local business, and most importantly, spending copious amounts of time with my sweetheart Becca.

She is already in Lincoln ready to begin her summer internship tomorrow. We will both be on our own getting a taste of freedom in a large city, but happily close enough to each other to make regular visits a possibility.

This is just the launching point, a week from now I will be in Omaha starting my real summer. The excitiment is almost palpable.

I dont know when I will next take the time to update this blog. The summer seems to make regular posting to my site a little more difficult. I dont really know why.

Two Words

Wooo Hoo! Those words sum up all my feelings right now. A few minutes ago I walked out of my last final of the semester and ended my second year at UNK. Next year I will be a senior. I kid you not, I can hardly believe the acceleration of my collegiate career myself. This second year was much less profound than the last one. Nothing huge changed about myself and my life this year.

I was just now reading through some of the blog rants in my archives from the end of last year. I thought it would be fun to go back and cover the topics that I talked about last year.

If I have everything planned out correctly I should be able to graduate from college in only 2 more years. I start to wonder why I would want to shorten my college career so much, but then I remember how much college costs, and the strong likelyhood I will have to be getting loans for next years tuition.

Its true that I am still on course to graduate at the end of next year. And it is also true that it is exponentially more difficult and depressing to leave all that I am connected with here at UNK. My friends and even people I consider to almost be family are all here, I will really miss not having all these people around to hang out with every day. As far as the loans go, I certainly did have to get some loans, and they still arent enough to cover the rediculous prices of this education. Next year will bring on more loans and more money management hurdles.

To add one more big element of surprise I actually joined a fraternity this second semester. For the people that know me best this was a pretty big surprise, myself included. Everything that I have experienced as a pledge and member of Pi Kappa Alpha has firmly convinced my that I made the right decision.

Life in the fraternity is still totally awesome. I feel that I have grown much closer to people that I normally would not have associated with at all. Being forced to socialize and work with people of radically different backgrounds and personality types has changed me in some ways. I will never regret getting to spend time with these people, my brothers have made a huge impact on my personality. Friendships that I have developed here will be with my throughout my life. As an active member I have seen new pledges come in and then initiate. This perspective has really shown me the ways that joining a fraternity can alter a person, almost always for the better. Being around all these different guys really evens a persons personality out. I have seen many people, including myself, with personalities on the extreme ends become much more socially proficient.

Despite, the rigors of a long distance relationship, Becca and I are tegether and more in love than ever. This woman is amazing and truly makes me happy in a way that no-one else can.

This summer I will be in Omaha, working a job/internship at Offut Air Force Base doing some multimedia stuff. I hope to have more details on that soon. Living on my own in a larger city should be pretty exciting. I am really looking forward to getting a taste of this stage of life.

My job at the helpdesk has come to an end. I will really miss working with Aaron and Jason on a regular basis, but I know that I will still be working with them on projects for Level1Media.

Well, it is definately time to start packing up. I will hopefully post slightly more often than I did last summer. I think last summers total number of rants came to about 3.
